Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治黃汗. 石膏二錢, 黃芪ㆍ赤芍藥ㆍ茵蔯ㆍ麥門冬ㆍ豆豉各一錢, 甘草五分. 右剉, 作一貼, 入薑五片, 水煎服. 《入門》一名黃芪散. 《丹心》

Translation

Treats yellow sweat. Gypsum 2 don; astragalus, red peony, virgate wormwood, ophiopogon and fermented soybean 1 don each; licorice 5 pun. Cut up, make one packet, add 5 slices of ginger, decoct in water and take. Also called Hwanggi-san. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Hwangdal)

Clinical commentary 臨床

黃汗, yellow sweat, is the fifth of Zhongjing's jaundices and the one in which the sweat itself stains the clothes yellow. The Oedema chapter lists it among its five water diseases at 2.3.7 and warns that left long it goes on to abscess and ulceration. Astragalus secures the exterior while gypsum clears the heat driving the sweat out — the two work against each other by design. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
