Translation

Treats yin water breaking out as swelling; first make the spleen earth substantial. Magnolia bark, white atractylodes, chaenomeles, tsaoko, areca seed, aconite (blast-fried) and white poria 1 don each; costus, dry ginger (blast-fried) and licorice (mix-fried) 5 pun each. Cut up, make one packet, add 3 slices of ginger and 2 jujubes, decoct in water and take. — Seui Deukhyobang 得效 (Donguibogam · Bujong)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The standard formula for yin water and the one the chapter names first when the swelling is cold rather than hot. Aconite and dry ginger warm, white atractylodes and poria fortify and drain, and nothing here attacks — the instruction 先實脾土, make the spleen earth substantial first, is the whole design. Yin water is the counterpart to the yang water treated by the ephedra formulas above: it comes on slowly, pits deeply, the skin is dull rather than shiny, and the patient is cold. **Contains aconite, which is toxic even when blast-fried. Not suitable for self-administration.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
