Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治傷寒胷脇痛ㆍ潮熱ㆍ咳喘ㆍ痰盛. 麻黃ㆍ杏仁ㆍ枳殼ㆍ桔梗ㆍ柴胡ㆍ黃芩ㆍ半夏ㆍ知母ㆍ石膏ㆍ乾葛各一錢, 甘草五分. 右剉, 作一貼, 入薑三, 水煎服. 《醫鑑》

Translation

Treats cold damage with pain in the chest and flanks, tidal fever, cough and panting, and abundant phlegm. Ephedra, apricot kernel, bitter orange peel, platycodon, bupleurum, scutellaria, pinellia, anemarrhena, gypsum and dried pueraria, 1 don each; licorice, 5 fun. Cut up, make one packet, add three slices of ginger, and decoct in water. — Gogeum Uigam 醫鑑 (Donguibogam · Haesu)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Three formulas folded into one: the ephedra, apricot kernel, gypsum and licorice of Mahaenggamseok-tang for the hot wheeze, the bupleurum, scutellaria, pinellia and ginger of Sosiho-tang for the tidal fever and flank pain, and bitter orange with platycodon to open the chest. The combination tells you what was in front of the physician: a febrile chest illness with pleuritic pain and a productive cough. **Contains pinellia, which is toxic in the raw state and must be properly processed. Ephedra is a sympathomimetic and is contraindicated in hypertension and heart disease.
