Translation

Treats exuberant liver fire with the eyes red, swollen and painful. Bupleurum, red peony, chuanxiong, Korean angelica, green tangerine peel, gentian, gardenia and forsythia 1 don each; licorice 5 pun. Cut up as one packet, decoct in water, and take after food. — Manbyeong Hoechun 回春 (Donguibogam · An)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Nine medicinals and no wind drugs at all — this is the formula for a red eye the chapter reads as pure liver fire rather than as wind heat, and the difference from Sanyeol-eumja beside it is exactly that. Green tangerine peel and bupleurum together free the liver qi while gentian drains its fire. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
