Donguibogam

Translation

Treats breath so foul and offensive that none can come near. Scutellaria (wine-washed) 2 nyang; coptis 1 nyang; ginger juice, lotus-flower green tangerine peel and cimicifuga 5 don each; raw licorice 3 don; white sandalwood 2 don. Powder them, bind with steamed bread into pills the size of a bullet, and chew one fine and wash it down with plain hot water. — Uihak Jeongjeon 正傳 (Donguibogam · Guseol)

Clinical commentary 臨床

細嚼 — chewed fine rather than swallowed whole, so the sandalwood works in the mouth while the coptis works below. The Teeth chapter's Singong-hwan is the same idea for the same complaint. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
