Translation

Treats spleen heat with a sweet mouth. Coptis, scutellaria, gardenia, gypsum, peony, platycodon, tangerine peel and poria 8 pun each; white atractylodes and licorice 3 pun each. Cut up, make one packet, add one mume, decoct in water and take. — Manbyeong Hoechun 回春 (Donguibogam · Guseol)

Clinical commentary 臨床

3.8 assigns the sweet taste to the spleen, since the spleen's flavour is sweet and heat makes it overflow. A persistent sweet taste in the mouth is worth taking seriously — it is one of the classical presentations of untreated diabetes. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
