Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治胃熱口臭, 口瘡牙宣. 熟地黃ㆍ生地黃ㆍ天門冬ㆍ黃芩ㆍ枇杷葉ㆍ茵蔯ㆍ枳殼ㆍ石斛ㆍ甘草各一兩, 犀角三錢. 右爲末, 每二錢, 水煎服. 此方有犀角一味, 甚有道理, 有奇效. 《本事》

Translation

Treats stomach heat with foul breath, mouth sores and bared gums. Cooked rehmannia, fresh rehmannia, asparagus, scutellaria, loquat leaf, artemisia, bitter orange, dendrobium and licorice 1 nyang each; rhinoceros horn 3 don. Powder them and take 2 don at a time decocted in water. This formula has the one ingredient rhinoceros horn in it, which is much to the purpose and has remarkable effect. — Bonsa 本事 (Donguibogam · Guseol)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Gamro-eum with rhinoceros horn added, and the Bonsa says plainly that the horn is what makes it work. Everything else in it moistens — two rehmannias, asparagus, dendrobium — for a mouth dried out by heat. **Rhinoceros horn is from a CITES Appendix I species and is banned worldwide; it must be omitted.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
