Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治嶺南春秋之月, 感山嵐瘴霧毒氣, 發寒熱胸滿不食. 蒼朮 一錢半, 半夏 一錢, 厚朴ㆍ陳皮ㆍ枳實ㆍ桔梗ㆍ川芎ㆍ木通ㆍ升麻ㆍ柴胡 各七分, 黃連ㆍ黃芩ㆍ木香ㆍ甘草 各五分. 右剉, 作一貼, 入薑 五片, 水煎服. 《名醫》

Translation

Treats miasmic mist toxin from the mountains contracted in the spring and autumn months in the southern provinces, with cold and heat, chest fullness and no appetite. Atractylodes lancea 1.5 don; pinellia 1 don; magnolia bark, tangerine peel, bitter orange fruit, platycodon, chuanxiong, akebia, cimicifuga and bupleurum 7 pun each; coptis, scutellaria, costus and licorice 5 pun each. Cut up, make one packet, add 5 slices of ginger, decoct in water and take. — Myeongui 名醫 (Donguibogam · Seup)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Miasma is the chapter's name for what rose from mountain valleys and standing water in the far south, and the section at 3.2 treats it as damp of a particular kind — damp carrying toxin. What it described was in large part malaria, which is why the chapter places it with the damp diseases rather than with the seasonal fevers. Fifteen medicinals with cimicifuga and bupleurum lifting, coptis and scutellaria clearing, and the Pyeongwi-san group drying — the formula covers three axes at once because the condition was not well understood. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
