Translation

Treats sudden wind stroke with loss of consciousness, where there is heat. Saposhnikovia and blast-fried arisaema, 2.5 don each; prepared pinellia, scutellaria and licorice, 1 don each. Cut up, make one packet, add ten slices of ginger and decoct in water. Combined with Dodam-tang and decocted together it is better still, and can disperse wind, sweep away phlegm and bring down fire. Also called Soseongpung-tang. — Donguibogam · Pung

Clinical commentary 臨床

The heat half of the pair, and the difference from its twin is two drugs: scutellaria in and the warm aromatics out. The recommendation to combine it with Dodam-tang gives the chapter's clearest statement of what it thinks a stroke is — disperse wind, sweep away phlegm, bring down fire, three actions for three agents — and that triad is the Ming synthesis of the whole wind literature in six characters. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
