Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治中風痰盛, 喎斜ㆍ不遂. 防風ㆍ半夏(生) 各二錢, 川烏(生)ㆍ南星(生)ㆍ白附子(生)ㆍ木香ㆍ甘草各一錢, 全蝎三分. 右剉, 作一貼, 入薑十片, 水煎服. 《入門》

Translation

Treats wind stroke with exuberant phlegm, deviation of the mouth and eye and paralysis. Saposhnikovia and raw pinellia, 2 don each; raw aconite kusnezoffii, raw arisaema, raw typhonium, costus and licorice, 1 don each; whole scorpion, 3 fun. Cut up, make one packet, add ten slices of ginger and decoct in water. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Pung)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The large version of Seongpung-tang, and it earns the name by using four drugs raw where the smaller formula processes them. Raw pinellia, raw aconite kusnezoffii, raw arisaema and raw typhonium together are a formidable assembly of irritants, and the ten slices of ginger — twice the usual — are there precisely to blunt them, which is the classical answer to raw pinellia. The design is for a cold, thick phlegm that will not shift; the toxicity is proportional and this is not a formula to prepare as written. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
