Translation

Treats wind stroke in which only the hands and feet hang useless. Arisaema and pinellia, both ginger-prepared, ginseng, blast-fried aconite, typhonium, poria, aconite kusnezoffii and silkworm, 1 don each; myrrh, 5 fun. Cut up, make one packet, decoct in half wine and half water, and take until sweat comes. — Danggye Simbeop 丹心 (Donguibogam · Pung)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Two aconites in one packet, decocted in half wine, and taken until the patient sweats. That is as aggressive as the chapter gets, and the indication explains the choice: only the limbs are affected and the patient is otherwise clear, so there is no clouded consciousness to worry about and the yang can be forced to the extremities. The construction is pure phlegm-and-yang — arisaema, pinellia, typhonium, both aconites — with ginseng alone to hold the qi. Aconite kusnezoffii and blast-fried aconite together in wine, dosed to sweating, carries a real risk of cardiotoxicity; this is not a formula to reproduce. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
