Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

當歸(酒洗) 一兩二錢, 白朮(麩炒)ㆍ白茯苓ㆍ生地黃(酒洗)ㆍ川芎各一兩, 人參ㆍ白芍藥ㆍ牛膝(酒洗) 各八錢, 縮砂(炒)ㆍ香附子ㆍ牡丹皮ㆍ半夏各七錢, 陳皮六錢, 甘草四錢. 右剉分作十貼, 薑三, 水煎, 空心服, 渣再煎, 臨臥服. 經未行, 先服五貼, 經行後服五貼, 藥盡卽效, 經調脉和, 卽當有孕矣. 《醫鑑》

Translation

Angelica (wine-washed) 1 nyang 2 don; white atractylodes (bran-fried), white poria, fresh rehmannia (wine-washed) and chuanxiong 1 nyang each; ginseng, white peony and achyranthes (wine-washed) 8 don each; amomum (stir-fried), cyperus, moutan bark and pinellia 7 don each; tangerine peel 6 don; licorice 4 don. Cut up and divide into ten packets; with 3 slices of ginger, decoct in water and take on an empty stomach, then decoct the dregs again and take at bedtime. Before the menses come take five packets, and after they have come take five packets; when the medicine is finished the effect follows — the menses regulated and the pulse harmonious, there will be conception. — Gogeum Uigam 醫鑑 (Donguibogam · Buin)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The dosing is the interesting part: ten packets divided across one cycle, five before the menses and five after. That is treatment timed to the cycle rather than taken continuously, and it is the only formula in this section arranged that way. 渣再煎 — decocting the dregs again for the evening dose — gets two doses from one packet and is the standard economy where a course runs long.
