Translation

Treats liver heat with the eyes red, swollen and painful and a screen suddenly breeding, or spleen heat with the inside of the lid like a cock's comb or clam flesh, or crab-eye pain, or the spiral peak rising. Abalone shell and cassia seed 1 nyang each; notopterygium, gardenia, horsetail, celosia seed and red peony 5 don each; rhubarb and schizonepeta 2 don 5 pun each. Powder them and take 2 don at a time stirred into an ophiopogon decoction. It is also called the Great Cassia Powder. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · An)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The two cassias together — the shell and the seed, both called 決明, "deciding the bright" — and the chapter uses them as a pair wherever something is to be cleared off the cornea. The indication list is unusually long because the Immun means it as the general formula for a hot red eye with anything raised on it. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
