Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治黃疸, 一身皆黃, 食已卽飢. 石膏二錢, 梔子仁ㆍ茵蔯ㆍ木通ㆍ大黃各一錢, 甘草五分, 瓜蔞實一箇. 右剉, 作一貼, 入薑五, 葱白二莖, 水煎服. 《得效》

Translation

Treats jaundice with the whole body yellow and hunger returning as soon as food is eaten. Gypsum 2 don; gardenia kernels, virgate wormwood, akebia and rhubarb 1 don each; licorice 5 pun; trichosanthes fruit, one whole. Cut up, make one packet, add 5 slices of ginger and 2 stalks of scallion white, decoct in water and take. — Seui Deukhyobang 得效 (Donguibogam · Hwangdal)

Clinical commentary 臨床

食已卽飢 — hunger returning as soon as food is eaten — is the sign that selects this formula. Stomach fire that burns through food without nourishing is the classical reading, and gypsum is its medicinal. That detail distinguishes this jaundice from the grain jaundice of 5.4.5, where the patient cannot eat at all by evening.
