Translation

Treats inner and outer obstructing screens new or old, wind heat with dimness, rotten rims and red eye, inturned curled lashes, and every eye disease. Gypsum (clears a screen and sinks pain), notopterygium (brain heat and head wind), scutellaria (washes the heart and draws off heat), ligusticum (head wind and headache), buddleia flower (shrinking from light and fear of the sun), horsetail (pushes back an obstructing screen), angelica dahurica (clears and frees the head and eyes), radish seed (raises inturned lashes), asarum (disperses wind), hemp seed (raises curled lashes), chuanxiong (treats head wind), atractylodes lancea (opens constraint and moves the qi), chrysanthemum (brightens the eyes and removes wind), schizonepeta (sores breeding in the eye) and licorice (resolves toxin), in equal parts. Powder them and take 2 don at a time stirred into honey water, or into the second rice-washing water. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · An)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The only formula in the chapter where every ingredient carries its own gloss, drug by drug, in the base text — which makes it the best teaching formula here and the clearest window on how a Ming compiler thought a prescription was built. Radish seed and hemp seed for raising inturned lashes is the one claim no reading can rescue. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
