Clinical commentary 臨床

A tincture and a powder from the same preparation, which is an economical piece of pharmacy: the fourteen-day steep draws out the alcohol-soluble constituents into the wine, and the drug residue is then dried and powdered so nothing is wasted. Chaenomeles at five nyang dominates and is the tradition's chief drug for cramping sinews; the rest is the standard wind-damp set with astragalus and tangkuei to supplement, since contracture after stroke is a chronic complaint. Of the chapter's spasticity formulas this is the best constructed. Tiger bone is prohibited and trogopterus dung is unavailable in practice; the remainder is still a coherent formula. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
