Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治丹毒及癍疹ㆍ癮疹. 鼠粘子四錢, 荊芥ㆍ防風各二錢, 甘草一錢, 犀角一錢半另水磨取汁. 右剉作一貼, 水煎, 調犀角汁服之. 《丹心》

Translation

Treats cinnabar toxin, and macular and hidden rashes. Burdock seed 4 don; schizonepeta and saposhnikovia 2 don each; licorice 1 don; rhinoceros horn 1 don 5 pun, ground separately in water and the juice taken. Cut up as one packet, decoct in water, and take with the rhinoceros horn juice stirred in. — Danggye Simbeop 丹心 (Donguibogam · Pi)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Four medicinals decocted and the horn added cold at the end as a separately ground juice, which is the standard way of using it — boiling would waste it. Burdock seed leads by weight, and the formula covers all three of the chapter's eruptions, which is why it appears in both the Hidden Rash and the Cinnabar Toxin lists. **Rhinoceros horn comes from a CITES-listed species and cannot lawfully be traded; water buffalo horn is used in its place.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
