Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治先吐痰後見血, 宜以降痰火爲急. 山梔仁一錢二分, 生地黃ㆍ赤芍藥ㆍ知母ㆍ貝母ㆍ瓜蔞仁各一錢, 天花粉ㆍ牡丹皮ㆍ麥門冬各五分. 右剉, 作一貼, 水煎服. 《入門》

Translation

Treats phlegm spat first and blood seen after, where downbearing the phlegm fire is urgent. Gardenia kernel 1 don 2 pun; fresh rehmannia, red peony, anemarrhena, fritillaria and trichosanthes seed 1 don each; trichosanthes root, moutan bark and ophiopogon 5 pun each. Cut up, make one packet, decoct in water and take. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Hyeol)

Clinical commentary 臨床

先吐痰後見血 — phlegm first, then blood. The order of appearance decides the treatment, and here it says the blood came from the phlegm's heat rather than from the lung's substance.
