Translation

Applied to accumulation lumps. Weathered lime half a geun, powdered and dry-fried in an earthenware vessel until a pale red; take it off and wait until the heat has somewhat eased, then add 1 nyang of powdered rhubarb and fry it off the stove; when the heat has eased again, add 5 don of powdered cinnamon heart and fry lightly. Add rice vinegar and reduce to a black plaster; spread on thick paper and apply to the affected place. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Jeokchwi)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The temperature sequence is the whole method: lime is fried until pale red, allowed to cool somewhat before rhubarb goes in, cooled again before cinnamon. Quicklime reacts violently with the vinegar added at the end, and the staged cooling controls that reaction. **Lime is caustic and causes chemical burns. This plaster must not be prepared or applied to the skin.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
