Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

水紅花子二錢, 大黃ㆍ朴硝ㆍ山梔ㆍ石灰各一錢, 酒酵一塊雞子大, 共搗成膏, 用布攤開, 貼痞塊上, 再用湯甁熨, 手帕勒之. 三日後揭起, 肉黑如墨, 是其效也. 《入門》

Translation

Prince's feather seed 2 don; rhubarb, mirabilite, gardenia and lime 1 don each; wine leaven one lump the size of a hen's egg. Pound them together into a plaster, spread on cloth, apply over the glomus lump, then press with a hot flask and bind with a kerchief. After three days lift it off; flesh black as ink is the sign of its effect. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Jeokchwi)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The stated sign of success is the alarming part: after three days under an occlusive dressing with heat applied, the skin should be black as ink. That is a description of a chemical burn with necrosis, and it is offered as the endpoint rather than as a complication.
