Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治同上. 大黃ㆍ朴硝各一兩爲末, 大蒜搗爲膏, 和勻作片, 貼之. 《丹心》一方, 加麝香五分, 名硝黃膏. 《入門》

Translation

Treats the same as above. Rhubarb and mirabilite 1 nyang each, powdered; garlic pounded to a paste, worked in evenly and formed into a cake, then applied. One version adds 5 pun of musk and is named Chohwang-go. — Dansim 丹心 (Donguibogam · Jeokchwi)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The name is a puzzle: there is no amber in it. Three ingredients — rhubarb, mirabilite, garlic — pounded into a cake and laid on the skin. Garlic is the vehicle and the irritant; the salt and the rhubarb do the drawing. **Garlic applied directly to skin under a plaster causes chemical burns with prolonged contact.
