Translation

Treats glomus lumps, accumulation and gathering, and aggregation disease of every kind. Rhubarb, gleditsia pod, fresh ginger, fresh scallion and garlic half a geun each. Pound them all to a pulp, decoct in water and take the liquid, discarding the dregs; reduce again to a plaster, taking a black colour as the measure. Spread on silk; first needle the affected place, then apply the plaster. — Manbyeong Hoechun 回春 (Donguibogam · Jeokchwi)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Five medicinals at half a geun each, four of them acrid and irritant, reduced together to a black paste. The instruction to needle the site first and then apply is the notable part: the punctures are there to let the plaster in, which makes this the only formula in the chapter to combine an external application with a procedure. **Needling the skin and then applying an irritant plaster carries a serious risk of infection and chemical injury. This is recorded as a historical method and must not be attempted.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
