Sparganium Disperse Accumulation Pill

Samreungsojeok-hwan

한글 삼릉소적환  ·  Pinyin San Leng Xiao Ji Wan

三稜消積丸

Pill formula, bulk amounts: the croton is fried with rice, skins and all, until scorched black, and the rice discarded; all are powdered and bound with a vinegar paste into pills the size of parasol-tree seeds; 30–40 pills with a ginger decoction. Note on modern practice: croton (巴豆) is a regulated toxic medicinal used only in processed trace form historically; contemporary practice omits it — the formula stands as recorded, the escalation logic being the durable lesson.

Translation

Treats damage by raw cold things that will not disperse, with fullness and oppression. Sparganium, curcuma, and medicated leaven, 7 don each; croton (fried with the skins on together with rice until scorched black, the rice removed), green tangerine peel, tangerine peel, and fennel, 5 don each; clove bark and alpinia, 3 don each. Powder the above and bind with a vinegar paste into pills the size of parasol-tree seeds; take 30–40 pills with a ginger decoction. — Dongwon 東垣 (Donguibogam · Naesang)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The rung of the ladder Danxi labeled 'attack' — here the croton stays in the pill, char-tamed, alongside the breaking pair, because a cold accumulation this set no longer answers to ferments and fragrances. The chapter's honest admission that some stalled meals must be fought. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
