Translation

Treats cough with hurried breathing; it nourishes the spleen and brings on the appetite. Perilla seed, radish seed and white mustard seed, 1 don each, lightly dry-fried on paper and ground; boil them into a drink, and do not decoct them too long or the taste turns bitter. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Haesu)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Three seeds, a don of each, and the most used formula in this part of the chapter — still prescribed, and still under this name. Perilla seed brings the qi down, radish seed moves food and phlegm, white mustard seed cuts phlegm in the chest wall; together they treat the elderly patient who coughs, wheezes and has no appetite, which is what 養親, nourishing one's parents, refers to. 勿煎太過, 味苦 — do not boil it too long or it turns bitter — is a real instruction and not a nicety. The seeds are aromatic and their volatile oils are what work; a long decoction drives them off and leaves a bitter drink an old patient will refuse. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
