Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑
治一切泄瀉. 白朮ㆍ白茯苓ㆍ白芍藥 各一錢半, 甘草(灸) 五分. 右剉, 作一貼, 水煎服. ○三白, 泄瀉之要藥也. 《入門》
Translation
Treats every kind of diarrhoea. White atractylodes, white poria and white peony, 1.5 don each; roasted licorice, 5 fun. Cut up, make one packet and decoct in water. The three whites are the essential medicine for diarrhoea. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Daebyeon)
Clinical commentary 臨床
Three drugs and a licorice, and the Immun's comment that the three whites are the essential medicine for diarrhoea is the reason this formula matters: it is the chapter's baseline, the thing to give when the pattern is not yet clear. Atractylodes dries the spleen's damp, poria moves the water out through the urine, peony relaxes the gut and relieves the cramp.
