Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治反胃痰盛, 二便澁. 半夏二錢, 桃仁一錢半, 香附子ㆍ枳實ㆍ瓜蔞仁ㆍ蘇子(炒)ㆍ白芥子(炒) 各一錢, 黃連(薑汁炒) 七分, 靑皮ㆍ陳皮ㆍ沉香ㆍ白茯苓ㆍ木通ㆍ芒硝各五分. 右剉, 作一貼, 水煎, 入芒硝攪勻, 空心服. 《醫鑑》

Translation

Treats stomach reflux with abundant phlegm and both urine and stool inhibited. Pinellia, 2 don; peach kernel, 1 don 5 fun; cyperus, bitter orange, trichosanthes seed, dry-fried perilla seed and dry-fried white mustard seed, 1 don each; coptis dry-fried in ginger juice, 7 fun; unripe tangerine peel, tangerine peel, aquilaria, white poria, akebia and mirabilite, 5 fun each. Cut up, make one packet, decoct in water, stir the mirabilite in evenly, and take on an empty stomach. — Gogeum Uigam 醫鑑 (Donguibogam · Guto)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The four seeds are peach kernel, trichosanthes, perilla and white mustard, and between them they do the two things the formula is for: the oily seeds slacken the bowel and the mustard and trichosanthes cut the phlegm. The mirabilite is stirred in at the end, off the heat, which is how it is always given. **Contains pinellia, which is toxic in the raw state and must be properly processed.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
