Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治噎膈, 大便燥結, 喘滿壅塞, 治膈氣之聖藥也. 人參ㆍ當歸ㆍ藿香ㆍ枳殼ㆍ大黃ㆍ厚朴ㆍ甘草各一兩, 木香ㆍ檳榔各七錢半. 右爲末, 水丸梧子大, 白湯下五七十丸. 《綱目》

Translation

Treats dysphagia with blockage, dry bound stool, and panting and fullness with blockage; it is the sage medicine for diaphragm qi. Ginseng, Chinese angelica, patchouli, bitter orange peel, rhubarb, magnolia bark and licorice, 1 nyang each; costus and areca, 7 don 5 fun each. Grind to a powder, make water pills the size of a paulownia seed, and give fifty to seventy down with plain hot water. — Uihak Gangmok 綱目 (Donguibogam · Guto)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The reasonable member of the group. Where Buja-hwan and Jachim-hwan reach for croton and arsenic, this opens the bowel with rhubarb and moves the qi with costus, areca and magnolia bark, and puts ginseng and angelica alongside them so that a depleted patient can take it.
