Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治婦人陰中久冷無子, 或下白帶. 蛇床子ㆍ龍骨各五錢, 吳茱萸ㆍ枯白礬ㆍ木香各三錢, 不灰木ㆍ白芷各二錢半, 零陵香ㆍ藿香各二錢, 丁香ㆍ小腦各一錢半, 麝香二分半. 右爲末, 蜜和兩作三十丸, 每取一丸, 錦包納陰中. 《丹心》

Translation

Treats a woman long cold within the vaginal passage and without child, or with white discharge coming down. Cnidium seed and dragon bone 5 don each; evodia, calcined alum and saussurea 3 don each; asbestos and angelica dahurica 2 don 5 pun each; lysimachia and agastache 2 don each; clove and borneol 1 don 5 pun each; musk 2 pun 5 ri. Powder them and bind with honey, making thirty pills from each two nyang; take one pill at a time, wrap it in silk and place it in the vagina. — Danggye Simbeop 丹心 (Donguibogam · Jeoneum)

Clinical commentary 臨床

A pessary, not a pill to swallow — bound with honey, wrapped in silk and placed, with the silk serving as the removal thread. Seven of the twelve are aromatics, which is the formula's logic: a cold womb is warmed from inside the passage by things that carry, and the dragon bone and alum dry the discharge while they do it. **Contains musk from a CITES-listed species, and asbestos, which is carcinogenic.
