Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治破傷風痰盛. 烏蛇六錢, 麻黃一兩, 草烏(炮)ㆍ乾薑ㆍ附子(炮)ㆍ川芎ㆍ白附子ㆍ天麻各五錢, 蝎梢二錢半. 右爲末, 每一錢, 熱酒調, 日三服. 《入門》

Translation

Treats lockjaw with exuberant phlegm. Black-striped snake, 6 don; ephedra, 1 nyang; blast-fried aconite kusnezoffii, dried ginger, blast-fried aconite, chuanxiong, typhonium and gastrodia, 5 don each; scorpion tail tips, 2 don 5 fun. Powder; 1 don each time, taken stirred into hot wine, three times a day. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Pung)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The warm version of the lockjaw treatment, for the patient whose rigidity comes with copious secretions and a cold body. Ephedra leads by weight, with both aconites and dried ginger behind it, which makes the whole formula a forcing of yang to the surface. Black-striped snake and scorpion are the wind-extinguishing animal drugs. The aconites are processed, which places it a step below Io-hwan in hazard, but three doses a day of this composition is still a serious cumulative exposure. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
