Translation

Treats panting cough with a dry mouth and vexing thirst. Trichosanthes root, anemarrhena and dry-fried fritillaria, 1 nyang each; ginseng and licorice, 5 don each. Grind to a powder; 2 don each time, with 2 don of beeswax melted first and the powder stirred into it in rice water, and so taken. — Sejong Jeungbo Deukhyobang 得效 (Donguibogam · Haesu)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Trichosanthes root and anemarrhena are the two drugs the Bogam uses for thirst with heat, and with fritillaria they make a formula for a cough that has dried the patient out. The beeswax is the interesting part: melted and stirred into rice water, it carries the powder as a bland emulsion, which is both a way of making a bitter powder swallowable and a demulcent in its own right for a raw throat. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
