Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治同上. 靑蒿(童便浸)ㆍ地骨皮ㆍ生地黃ㆍ石膏各一兩, 當歸七錢, 胡黃連五錢, 鱉甲一片. 右爲末, 蜜丸梧子大. 每七十丸, 小麥煎湯下. 《入門》

Translation

Treats the same as the above. Child-urine-soaked sweet wormwood, lycium root bark, raw rehmannia, and gypsum, 1 nyang each; Korean angelica 7 don; Hu coptis 5 don; turtle shell, one piece. Powder the above and bind with honey into pills the size of parasol-tree seeds; take 70 pills with a wheat decoction. — Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Hwa)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The pill form of Ojeung-tang, and the substitutions tell you what changes when a fever is to be treated for months rather than days: sweet wormwood and turtle shell come in, gypsum stays, and the ginseng goes out. Sweet wormwood is the classical herb for heat that hides at the Yin level and emerges at dusk — and the same plant later yielded artemisinin. Turtle shell anchors below while the rest draws the heat up and out; the wheat decoction it is taken with does for the pill what the wheat in the pot did for the decoction. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
