Translation

Treats the eye red, swollen and painful. Phellodendron 1 nyang; coptis, scutellaria, red lead and rhubarb 5 don each. Powder them; take 1 don at a time, work it into a paste with honey water, spread it on twisted silk, and stick it on the Taeyang point on the affected side, moistening it with warm water when it dries. — Eoyagwon 御藥 (Donguibogam · An)

Clinical commentary 臨床

A plaster for the temple rather than anything put in the eye — the five yellows pasted on silk and stuck over Taeyang, moistened again when it dries. Applying a cooling plaster beside the eye rather than on it is a sound instinct, and the one objection is the red lead among the five. **Contains red lead. Lead is absorbed through skin and cumulatively poisonous. This must not be prepared.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
