Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治眼暴赤腫, 苦痛不可忍. 蒼朮ㆍ草龍膽 各一錢四分, 當歸ㆍ甘草 各一錢, 川芎 六分, 生地黃ㆍ黃栢ㆍ黃芩ㆍ知母 各五分, 羌活ㆍ升麻ㆍ柴胡ㆍ防風ㆍ藁本ㆍ黃連 各三分, 䓀莄ㆍ連翹ㆍ細辛ㆍ紅花 各二分. 右剉作一貼, 水煎, 食後服. 《正傳》

Translation

Treats the eye suddenly red and swollen with bitter pain that cannot be borne. Atractylodes lancea and gentian 1 don 4 pun each; Korean angelica and licorice 1 don each; chuanxiong 6 pun; raw rehmannia, phellodendron, scutellaria and anemarrhena 5 pun each; notopterygium, cimicifuga, bupleurum, saposhnikovia, ligusticum and coptis 3 pun each; platycodon, forsythia, asarum and carthamus 2 pun each. Clinical commentary 臨床

Nineteen medicinals in a steep weight gradient — gentian and atractylodes lancea at the top, four drugs at two pun at the bottom. It is Dongwon's manner applied to an emergency: drain the fire with the three yellows, lift and vent with five wind drugs, and keep angelica and carthamus in so that the blood is not left stagnant behind the inflammation. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
