Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

婦人無子者服之. 厚朴一兩二錢半, 吳茱萸ㆍ白茯苓ㆍ白芨ㆍ白斂ㆍ石菖蒲ㆍ白附子ㆍ桂心ㆍ人參ㆍ沒藥各一兩, 細辛ㆍ乳香ㆍ當歸(酒浸)ㆍ牛膝(酒洗) 各七錢半. 右爲末, 蜜丸小豆大, 酒下一二十丸. 壬子日修合. 一名壬子丸. 《集略》

Translation

To be taken by a woman without child. Magnolia bark 1 nyang 2 don 5 pun; evodia, white poria, bletilla, ampelopsis, acorus, white aconite, cinnamon heart, ginseng and myrrh 1 nyang each; asarum, frankincense, angelica (wine-steeped) and achyranthes (wine-washed) 7 don 5 pun each. Powder them, make honey pills the size of a small bean, and take ten or twenty down with wine. Compound it on an imja day. It is also called Imja Pill. — Jimnyak 集略 (Donguibogam · Buin)

Clinical commentary 臨床

螽斯, the locust swarm, is from the Shijing, where it is a wish for many descendants. The name says what the formula is for without naming a disease. Compounding on an imja day is the one instruction that has nothing to do with pharmacy, and the alternative name records it — the formula is known by the day it is made. Both im and ja belong to water, and a formula that warms a cold womb is made when water is strongest, on the same like-meets-like reasoning the Fire chapter uses at 5.25.1. **Contains white aconite, which is toxic.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
