Clinical commentary 臨床

The traveller's powder, and the indication says so in four characters: not tolerating the water and soil. Seems malaria but is not, seems dysentery but is not — which is to say an undiagnosed fever with diarrhoea in a stranger to the place, and the Immun offers the formula both as treatment and as prophylaxis to be taken regularly. Its composition is nearly that of Cheongseo-hwajung-san with the proportions redistributed, elsholtzia and hyacinth bean doubled and the draining drugs lightened. A powder that keeps, dissolves in boiling water or tea and can be carried is exactly the right form for the purpose, and the whole entry is a reminder that these chapters were used by people on the road. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
