療七種癖塊, 八種痞病, 五種癲癎, 十種疰忤, 七種飛尸, 十二種蠱毒, 五種黃疸, 十二種瘧疾, 十種水病, 八種大風, 十二種濕痺, 及積聚, 脹滿, 久遠心腹痛, 疳蛔寸白諸蟲, 久積, 痰飮, 消瘦疲困, 或婦人子藏中瘀血凝滯, 因此斷産, 服此藥以三丸爲一劑, 不過三劑, 其病悉除. 說無窮盡, 故稱爲萬病元. 芍藥ㆍ川椒ㆍ肉桂ㆍ芎藭ㆍ乾薑ㆍ防風ㆍ巴豆霜ㆍ當歸ㆍ犀角(鎊)ㆍ桔梗ㆍ芫花(醋炒)ㆍ赤茯苓ㆍ人參ㆍ黃芩ㆍ黃連ㆍ桑白皮ㆍ蒲黃ㆍ前胡ㆍ大戟ㆍ葶藶子(炒)ㆍ麝香ㆍ細辛ㆍ雄黃ㆍ朱砂ㆍ紫菀ㆍ禹餘粮(醋淬硏水飛)ㆍ甘遂ㆍ牛黃 各一兩, 蜈蚣 十二節(去頭足灸), 芫靑 二十八箇(糯米同炒米黃色取去翅足), 蜥蜴(去頭尾足灸) 四寸. 右爲末, 蜜丸小豆大. 溫水, 或薑湯下三丸, 以吐利爲度. 《局方》

Translation

Cures the seven kinds of aggregation lump, eight kinds of blockage disease, five kinds of epilepsy, ten kinds of infixation, seven kinds of flying corpse, twelve kinds of gu toxin, five kinds of jaundice, twelve kinds of malaria, ten kinds of water disease, eight kinds of great wind, twelve kinds of damp impediment; and accumulation and gathering, distension and fullness, heart and abdominal pain of long standing, gan worms and tapeworms and worms of every kind, old accumulation, phlegm-rheum, wasting and exhaustion; or static blood congealed in a woman's womb causing barrenness. Taking this medicine at three pills to a dose, no more than three doses are needed and the disease is wholly removed. What may be said of it has no end, and so it is called the Myriad Diseases Pill. Peony, zanthoxylum, cinnamon bark, chuanxiong, dry ginger, saposhnikovia, croton frost, angelica, rhinoceros horn (filed), platycodon, genkwa (vinegar-fried), red poria, ginseng, scutellaria, coptis, mulberry root bark, typha pollen, peucedanum, euphorbia, lepidium seed (stir-fried), musk, asarum, realgar, cinnabar, aster, limonite (vinegar-quenched, ground and water-levigated), kansui and ox bezoar 1 nyang each; centipede 12 segments, head and feet removed and mix-fried; blister beetle 28 whole, dry-fried with glutinous rice until the rice yellows, then wings and feet removed; lizard 4 chon, head, tail and feet removed and mix-fried. Powder them, make honey pills the size of a small bean, and take three down with warm water or ginger decoction, taking vomiting and purging as the measure. — Hwaje Gukbang 局方 (Donguibogam · Jeokchwi)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Thirty-one medicinals, the widest indication list in the book, and a name that the source itself explains — what may be said of it has no end. Four drastic purgatives (croton, genkwa, euphorbia, kansui) sit alongside four toxic minerals and animal products, with ginseng, poria and peony as the only restraint. **This formula must not be prepared or taken under any circumstances. It contains realgar (arsenic sulfide), cinnabar (mercuric sulfide), blister beetle (cantharidin), centipede and four drastic purgatives, and it is dosed to the endpoint of vomiting and purging.
