Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治酒毒積熱便血, 肛門作熱. 黃連四兩(剉酒淹一宿日乾). 右爲末, 粟米糊和丸梧子大, 熟水下三五十丸. 《得效》

Translation

Treats wine toxin and accumulated heat with bloody stool and heat at the anus. Coptis 4 nyang, cut up, steeped a night in wine and dried in the sun. Powder it, bind with millet paste into pills the size of a firmiana seed, and take thirty to fifty down with boiled water. — Seui Deukhyobang 得效 (Donguibogam · Hyeol)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Coptis alone, steeped in the wine that caused the trouble. The steeping is the reverse treatment of the Medicine Use chapter's 5.14 — the cold medicinal carried by the hot vehicle so that it reaches where the heat is. 肛門作熱, heat at the anus, marks the bleeding as haemorrhoidal, and heavy drinking is still the commonest aggravation of piles. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
