Translation

Treats white discharge flowing long and unceasing, everything below the waist as though in ice and snow, the face white and the eyes blue-green, the flesh wasting away — this being the true Qi of the upper, middle, and lower Yang all vacuous together. Korean angelica 1 nyang; lesser galangal and blast-fried aconite, 7 don each; fennel 5 don. Cut these and boil them together in a cup and a half of good wine until the wine is gone, then bake dry. Then add salt fried to yellow and scorpion, 3 don each; bupleurum 2 don; roasted licorice, toosendan fruit, clove, aucklandia, and cimicifuga, 1 don each; corydalis 4 don. Powder all finely together and bind with a wine-and-wheat paste into pills the size of parasol-tree seeds; take 50–70 pills on an empty stomach with a thin vinegar broth. — Dongwon 東垣 (Donguibogam · Po)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The chapter's most severe cold presentation, and the description is unforgettable — everything below the waist as though standing in ice and snow, the face white, the eyes blue-green, the flesh wasting. Dongyuan names it as the true Qi of all three Yang divisions failing at once, and answers with four herbs boiled in wine until the wine is gone, then nine more added. The wine-boiling is not decoration: it is how a formula this cold-natured a case requires gets carried to where the cold sits. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
