Cut and made into one packet, decocted in water and taken. Distinct from the four-ingredient Gyebu-tang of the Immun recorded elsewhere on this site. Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治白帶腥臭, 多悲不樂, 大寒之證. 附子(炮) 三錢, 肉桂一錢, 黃柏ㆍ知母各五分. 右剉, 作一貼, 水煎服. 《東垣》

Translation

Treats white discharge rank and foul-smelling, much grief and no gladness — a pattern of great cold. Blast-fried aconite 3 don; cinnamon bark 1 don; phellodendron and anemarrhena, 5 fun each. Cut the above, make one packet, decoct in water and take. — Dongwon 東垣 (Donguibogam · Po)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Four herbs, and the indication is what makes it memorable: rank discharge, and *much grief and no gladness*. Dongyuan lists a mood among the presenting signs of a cold pattern and treats it with aconite and cinnamon — not because sadness is cold in the abstract, but because in this patient the two arrived together.
