Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

主一切水濕盛病. 黑丑頭末 四兩, 大黃二兩, 甘遂ㆍ大戟ㆍ芫花幷醋炒 各一兩, 靑皮ㆍ陳皮ㆍ木香ㆍ檳榔各半兩, 輕粉一錢. 右末水丸. 服如上法. 《綱目》

Translation

Governs all diseases of water and damp exuberant. Black morning glory seed first powder 4 nyang; rhubarb 2 nyang; kansui, euphorbia root and genkwa flower all vinegar-fried 1 nyang each; green tangerine peel, tangerine peel, costus and areca half a nyang each; calomel 1 don. Powder them and make water pills. Take as in the method above. — Uihak Gangmok 綱目 (Donguibogam · Ha)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Jugeo-hwan with areca and calomel added. The vinegar frying of the three toxic medicinals is the one moderating step, and it is standard for them. Calomel at a single don is what separates this from the formula above. It was added for its violent purgative and diuretic action, and it is mercurous chloride. **Contains calomel, a mercury compound, with three toxic euphorbias and two purgatives.
