Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治同上. 山藥一斤, 杵細; 杏仁一升, 硏細; 生牛乳一升. 右同攪勻, 絞取汁, 盛磁甁, 重湯煮一日, 酒服一二匙. 《正傳》

Translation

Treats the same as above. Dioscorea, 1 geun, pounded fine; apricot kernel, 1 seung, ground fine; fresh cow's milk, 1 seung. Stir them evenly together, wring out the juice, put it in an earthen bottle and cook it in a double boiler for a day; take one or two spoonfuls in wine. — Uihak Jeongjeon 正傳 (Donguibogam · Jo)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Dioscorea, apricot kernel and milk, cooked a whole day in a double boiler. Nothing in it is a drug: it is starch, nut oil and milk, which is to say a concentrated emulsion of fat, protein and carbohydrate, and the day-long gentle cooking is what a cook does to keep milk from splitting.
