Clinical commentary 臨床

The opening formula of the 歷節風 section and the statement of Danggye's position on it: painful wind is mostly blood vacuity with foul blood, so regulate and move the blood. Peach kernel, safflower and tangkuei lead, and earthworm and trogopterus dung are the two creature drugs the tradition reaches for when a joint is hot and swollen. For acute gout or an inflamed single joint, moving the blood rather than dispelling wind is the more useful instinct, and it is the one the next ten formulas in the section largely follow. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
