等分, equal parts, with no weight given; 40 g each is entered as a nominal figure so the proportions hold. The two mineral preparations are first cooked with pine-knot and polygala shoots, which are then discarded — 只取砂齒 — so neither is an ingredient of the pill. The vehicle of ophiopogon, mung bean, rush pith and honey is likewise not an ingredient.

Translation

Treats heart vacuity with fright palpitation. Cinnabar steeped in wine with yellow pine-knot and fossilised tooth boiled in vinegar together with polygala shoots. Take only the cinnabar and the tooth in equal parts and powder them; mix with pig's heart blood and make pills the size of a water-chestnut. For each pill, decoct ophiopogon, mung bean, rush pith and white honey in water until the beans are done, strain, and swallow it stirred in at bedtime. — Samin 三因 (Donguibogam · Sin)

Clinical commentary 臨床

**This must not be prepared.** The pill is cinnabar — mercuric sulphide — taken nightly, and the fossil tooth adds nothing but weight. The method is worth reading for what it shows about preparation: the two minerals are cooked with 黃松節 and 遠志苗 and the plant material then thrown away, so the intent was to transfer something from the herbs into the minerals. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
