Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治兩目赤腫疼痛, 流淚, 生靑白瞖. 䄅皮ㆍ黃連ㆍ滑石 各一錢. 右麄末, 煎湯溫洗, 日三次. 《局方》

Translation

Treats both eyes red, swollen and painful with running tears and a blue-white screen breeding. Ash bark, coptis and talc 1 don each. Grind coarse, decoct, and wash warm three times a day. — Gukbang 局方 (Donguibogam · An)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Three medicinals in equal weight, washed warm rather than hot — the mildest of the six washes, and the one the Gukbang gives where the cornea is already involved. Ash bark is the eye's own astringent in this tradition, and its decoction is still used as an eye wash in parts of East Asia. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
