Translation

Treats water panting, or panting with a puffy face. Lepidium seed, dry-fried to a yellow and powdered; ten jujubes, decocted strong and then removed. Stir 2 don of the powder into the decoction and take. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Haesu)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Two materials, and it is the short form of Jeongryeokdaejosapye-tang below: lepidium seed to drive the water out of the chest, jujube decoction to carry it and to blunt it. The pairing is one of the oldest in the literature and the reason for the jujube is explicit in Junggyeong — lepidium alone is too harsh for a patient who is already struggling to breathe. 面浮, a puffy face, with panting is oedema, and a drug that drains water out of the chest is the right idea. **Lepidium seed is a strong diuretic and purgative; in a patient with breathlessness and oedema the cause needs establishing first.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
