Clinical commentary 臨床

Nineteen drugs, almost all of them aromatic and almost all in very small doses — three fun, two fun — with only atractylodes and licorice given any weight. That shape is deliberate: the formula is meant to be warm and fragrant rather than strong, and to move a blocked middle without draining a patient who is already not eating. The ten diaphragm blocks listed in the Gangmok's gloss are worth reading as a classification of what the tradition thought could stop food: four of the ten are states of feeling, which is the same judgment the chapter makes at 噎膈反胃病因 when it cites 張雞峯 to the effect that gullet block is a disease of thought. **Contains pinellia, which is toxic in the raw state and must be properly processed.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
