Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治年少氣血俱熱, 生瘡疥, 變爲腫滿. 赤小豆ㆍ猪苓ㆍ桑白皮ㆍ防己ㆍ連翹ㆍ澤瀉ㆍ當歸ㆍ商陸ㆍ赤芍藥各一錢. 右剉, 作一貼, 入薑五, 水煎服. 《得效》

Translation

Treats heat in both qi and blood in the young, producing sores and scabies which turn into swelling and fullness. Adzuki bean, polyporus, mulberry root bark, stephania, forsythia, alisma, angelica, pokeweed root and red peony 1 don each. Cut up, make one packet, add 5 slices of ginger, decoct in water and take. — Seui Deukhyobang 得效 (Donguibogam · Bujong)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The clinical observation behind this formula is a good one: swelling that follows skin sores in a young patient. That is post-streptococcal acute glomerulonephritis, and the sequence the source describes — sores first, oedema after — is exactly its presentation. Forsythia and red peony address the heat in the blood that the source identifies as the link. **Contains pokeweed root, which is toxic.
