Translation

Treats an enduring dysentery on which no medicine has had effect. Ailanthus root bark, one handful; polished rice, one hop; scallion white, one handful; licorice, one inch; fermented soybean, two hop. Boil in one seung of water down to half a seung and take at a draught. — Seui Deukhyobang 得效 (Donguibogam · Daebyeon)

Clinical commentary 臨床

A kitchen decoction: bark, rice, scallion, licorice and fermented soybean, boiled down by half and drunk at once. Four of the five ingredients are food, and the ailanthus bark is the drug. For the case named — a chronic dysentery that nothing has touched — the Deukhyo's answer is to stop prescribing and feed the patient something astringent, which is a reasonable place to arrive. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
