Translation

Treats a woman long cold and without children, and one who has repeatedly miscarried — all of it arising because the Penetrating and Conception vessels are vacuously damaged and old illness lies lodged within the womb, the cycle unregulated, or with flooding, spotting, and discharge: the thirty-six ills, all of which keep a pregnancy from forming, to the point of cutting off the line. It also treats the hundred illnesses after birth, brings a person to conceive, and yields children sturdy and free of illness. Atractylodes 8 nyang; cyperus, prepared rehmannia, and lycopus, 4 nyang each; ginseng, platycodon, silkworm moult, dendrobium, ligusticum, gentiana macrophylla, and licorice, 2 nyang each; Korean angelica, cinnamon heart, dried ginger, asarum, moutan bark, and cnidium, 1.5 nyang each; aucklandia, white poria, burnt ink-stick, and peach kernel, 1 nyang each; Sichuan pepper and dioscorea, 7.5 don each; dry-fried glutinous rice 1 doe; dry-fried soybean sprouts half a doe. Powder the above and work evenly with refined honey, dividing each nyang into six pills; chew one pill finely and send it down with warm wine or vinegar broth. — Gukbang 局方 (Donguibogam · Buin)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Twenty-five ingredients, and the two largest are grains — a doe of dry-fried glutinous rice and half a doe of soybean sprouts — which places this among the chapter's food-medicines as much as its pill formulas. The indication is the widest in the Women's chapter: cold and childlessness, repeated miscarriage, the vessels damaged, old illness lodged, cycle disordered, flooding and discharge, 'the thirty-six ills.' A formula written for the woman whose whole reproductive history has gone wrong, and meant to be taken for a long time. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
