Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治腎虛聲不出. 人參ㆍ川芎ㆍ當歸ㆍ熟地黃ㆍ白芍藥ㆍ白茯苓ㆍ兎絲子ㆍ五味子ㆍ杜沖ㆍ巴戟ㆍ橘紅ㆍ半夏麴各六分, 牛膝ㆍ白朮ㆍ破故紙ㆍ胡蘆巴ㆍ益智ㆍ甘草(灸) 各三分, 石菖蒲二分. 右剉, 作一貼, 薑三片, 棗二枚, 水煎, 於五更初腎氣開時, 不許咳唾言語, 默默服之. 《直指》回春名滋腎湯, 與此同.

Translation

Treats kidney vacuity with the voice not coming out. Ginseng, chuanxiong, angelica, cooked rehmannia, white peony, white poria, cuscuta, schisandra, eucommia, morinda, red tangerine peel and pinellia leaven 6 pun each; achyranthes, white atractylodes, psoralea, fenugreek, alpinia and licorice (mix-fried) 3 pun each; acorus 2 pun. Cut up, make one packet, and decoct with 3 slices of ginger and 2 jujubes. At the start of the fifth watch, when the kidney qi opens, take it silently, allowing no coughing, spitting or speech. — Jikji 直指 (Donguibogam · Seongeum) The Hoechun names it Enrich the Kidney Decoction, which is the same.

Clinical commentary 臨床

Nineteen medicinals, mostly the Kidney chapter's warm supplements, with acorus at two pun to open the orifice — the voice treated from below on 3.1.1's rule that the kidney is its root.
